All About Blogs
The Hammerhead CMS blog module was launched and helped all of our customers encourage more traffic to their websites. We thought we would put together some information on this vital piece of the CMS after we received some questions about it.
“DO I need a blog?”
Yes, you certainly do. Blogs show activity on your website; this is great for SEO as search engines de-rank inactive websites whilst promoting active ones.
“What if I get a very bad entry by a competitor?”
Because our blog module prompts you to review and approve blog entries, it is 100% safe against competitor spam attack or unjust entries.
“Is it the same as a forum or a FAQ?”
A blog is basically a place where you, as the website owner express your opinion or provide information about a specific topic. This is the opener of the discussion. Blog posts could include:
-
A review of a piece of equipment.
-
An article about a holiday location.
-
Advice on a skill.
But they are all started by you but you define the topic of discussion, and hope to achieve personable comments by viewers. Also the reader can rate the post.
A forum is where the user states their own opinion, and everyone else (including the owner of the website) contributes their opinion.
The topics are wide ranging and not always directly or indirectly related to the business you wish to promote.
They could include anything and everything and generally do!
The readers don’t rate the post, but seen as ‘popular’ if they have a lot of comments/pages attached to them.
A FAQ is a place where incontrovertible facts are written. These would include the location of the premises, prices of local goods/food & drink, travel arrangements, etc.
- There would be no need or place to comment on them. There is no rating.
They include:
-
Place of address
-
Advice on transport
-
Facts about a country

How Does Our Blog Work?
The Hammerhead CMS blog is a two-tier blog solution made up of an article and pages. The article defines the general area of interest that your blog pages are going to talk about, and then you create pages for each specific topic within that area of interest. For example you could create an article called ‘Car Reviews’ and then create pages of reviews for different models of car. Each review lets you state your opinion about a particular model and lets people comment on your review. Or you could create an article called ‘Day Trips’ and then create pages for each day trip you’ve been on for people to read and comment.
The point with both of these options is that you define the topic of discussion and allow others to comment on your opinion or add comments to add to the discussion about the topic you have written about. As no posts can be displayed on your website without your approval nothing you don’t like will be published to the website.
