Add a download

The following instructions explain how to upload a document to the CMS and provide a link to your customers so the document can be downloaded.  It is recommended that any document downloads are first converted to PDF before being made available, although you can make any kind of file available.

Creating the download:

  1. Login to the Hammerhead CMS Control Panel and select Downloads, Public Files
  2. Click New, then click the Browse... button and select the file to upload, making sure it's a PDF if you are uploading a document
  3. Click Upload and wait for the upload to complete and click Finish
  4. Click the Copy link to copy the download link to you clipboard for use later.  You may be asked to confirm the action by your browser so please click Allow Access or Yes to any questions.

Creating the hyperlink:

  1. Type your anchor text, such as Trip Schedule.  A better option is to add your anchor text to a sentence, for example Here is our trip schedule.  Try to use descriptive anchor text, not simply click here.
  2. Highlight your anchor text and click the Create Link button
  3. Paste the URL you copied in the previous step into the URL box
  4. Select a target, preferably a New Window, add a ToolTip and click OK

If you upload a new version of the document you'll need to reconfigure any links with the new download URL.

Simplified method:

The text editor has a simplified method for adding a download link to content text. Should you want to add a download link to another component, such as a widget then you'll need to copy the download link as described above but to add a download link to text the simplified method will be quicker.

  1. Press the Insert a Download Link button in the text editor's toolbar.
  2. Type the text you can to appear as the anchor text
  3. Select a file from File list and select whether you want the link to open in a new window
  4. Click OK
